We are Pregnant!
What do the two lines mean?
On March 23, 2010, Matt and I found out that we would be having a new addition to our family
After my missed period, I had a feeling that there was someone else on the way, I wanted to find out before Matt got home so I could surprise him with the news.
That day was a Tuesday, and after school I ran to Target to pick up a pregnancy test. I took it and it came back positive! The only other person home was my puppy niece Wendy who I watch on Tuesdays. I called her in the bathroom and told her the good news. She just waved her head back and forth, that’ common.
After that I went straight to work on how I would tell Matthew.
As you may know, my husband has a green thumb and his first task when he gets home is to water his plants. I knew if I left a note there that he would see it there first.
The funny part about this, is that, Matthew actually was so tired from work that day, that he took a break and sat on the couch. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise, so I just kept quiet. He finally looked out into our patio, and asked “Why is there a note on the tomatoes?” I was being sly, so I said “I don’t know.. why don’t you go look.”
He got up and read the note which said “Matthew, these aren’t the only things growing around here.. You are going to be a dad! I love you! Yasmine”
He quickly ran inside and gave me a hug and asked “Is this true?!” Yes, Matthew, it is true!
We are so excited to be parents to our little bambino.
To celebrate we went to one of our favorite places, Liberty Market, had a cortadito and enjoyed the company, then we ran home to watch Lost.
What a glorious day that was.
How we told our Family
Matt’s family usually gets together every Sunday to have dinner and family time. We knew that would be the best time to tell them. I made shirts that said “Baby” and an arrow pointing down to my tummy. Matt had a shirt that said “I am with pregnant” and an arrow pointing to the side. We walked in and surprised everyone. As you can see in the picture… I misspelled pregnant… of course everyone teased me saying “I hope the baby doesn’t have his or her mother’s spelling.”
For my family, we gathered everyone together at Sakana to celebrate my youngest sister’s birthday and to tell everyone the good news. When she opened her card, we wrote “Happy Birthday, from Yasmine, Matthew and Baby Evjen!” My oldest sister (who also is pregnant! due October 3rd) may have ruined everyone’s eardrums with her scream. Everyone was so excited.
My dad thought the boys should celebrate with a “Dads to be, celebration, over 21, legal, not to get drunk, shot of tequila.”
Our due date is November 26, 2010!
