The Engagement

Three years ago, Matt took me on a date. A year after that, he asked me to be his wife.

Here is our story:

On August 19, 2008, Matt picked me up from my house and took me out to eat sushi at Kona Grill. I can still remember how nervous he was, this was his first date. After dinner we went to a local park that has a hill overlooking the city. When we hiked up the hill we found a heart drawn in the dirt. Little did I know that this would be my last “first date.”

On our one year anniversary (August 19, 2009) Matt took me back to that hill. When we got there I saw another heart drawn into the dirt. I thought it was the funniest thing that there was another heart, I even made a comment “someone must come up here regularly to draw a heart!” Completely oblivious to the fact that Matt had drawn it. This time I noticed that it was different, it had something written in it.

I couldn’t figure out what it said, and thought it was some initials, Matthew suggested that we go investigate. After a few minutes (okay, actually is was more than a few minutes, and I think Matt started praying that I would figure it out!) I figured out that the heart said “I Do?” At that moment Matt got down on one knee and asked me to be his bride! I couldn’t have been happier.

We took a few minutes to sit on the blanket before we told our family and friends. His sister Nicky had actually found this hot sauce packet that said “Will You Marry Me?” when she went to Taco Bell that day, she gave it to Matt knowing he was going to propose later that night.
